WCC opens training center in White Plains – campus news

Westchester Community College (WCC) began operations at White Plains Education & Training Center (WPETC) in December to provide a convenient, state-of-the-art location for those looking to re-integrate or hone their skills in the job. Located in the heart of the White Plains Brookfield Commons residential complex, the community celebrated the facility’s official reopening with a groundbreaking ceremony on November 10, 2021. WCC partners with a network of organizations and businesses to deliver a short-term training tailored to the needs of employers in the region.

WPETC will provide employment and advancement pathways for residents of Westchester and area. Under the auspices of the Workforce Development and Community Education Division, the White Plains Center will focus on medium skill careers in demand, short-term training for jobs that require more than a high school diploma but less than an associate’s degree.

“This project has been close to my heart from the start,” said Tom Roach, Mayor of White Plains. “As a key partner in education and workforce training, Westchester Community College stands ready to provide essential training in key areas of the Lower Hudson Valley, including health care. health, computing, construction and more, to residents of White Plains and Westchester County. “

“Our goal is to work with local employers to create innovative programs that will provide a workforce trained to meet the needs of our region’s 21st century economy,” said Dr. Belinda S. Miles, President from Westchester Community College. “The White Plains Education and Training Center offers flexible hours; programs taught by leading experts in the region; and hands-on experience to give employees and job seekers the tools to grow economically.

WPETC was funded through generous support from the Westchester Community Foundation and an investment of $ 400,000 from JPMorgan to support the Centre’s ongoing training programs.
