Florence-Darlington Tech Offers Police Pre-Academy Training Certificate | Local News

FLORENCE, SC – Florence-Darlington Technical College will offer a Police Pre-Academy Training Certificate to local law enforcement agencies through a newly formed partnership between the SC Technical College System and the SC Criminal Justice Academy.

The 14-week certificate program will consist of four courses for a total of 12 credit hours.

Applicants will be individuals who aspire to be employed as law enforcement officers in the state of South Carolina.

To be accepted into the program, applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a high school diploma or equivalent, pass a criminal background check, and be at least 20 years of age.

The police pre-academy training certificate is not eligible for federal financial aid, but it is eligible for lottery tuition aid and the South Carolina Workforce Industry Needs scholarship.

“This is a great opportunity for the Criminal Justice Department at Florence Darlington Technical College,” said Sharon Sheehy, FDTC Director of Criminal Justice Technology. “This certificate will not only be an asset to our local services, but will also provide potential candidates with quality training while pursuing a career in law enforcement. “

Classes will be held at the main FDTC campus and will be taught by FDTC criminal justice technology instructors. Credit hours can be applied to an associate’s degree of 66 credit hours. Candidates will learn basic and introductory law enforcement training as well as tactics and procedures. The courses include CRJ Police Sciences 281, CRJ Police Sciences II, CRJ 283 Police Sciences III and CRJ 284 Police Sciences IV.
