UFI announces new certified professional designation and its first training partners

UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry, has launched a new qualification accredited by UFI: the UFI Certified Professional (UCP).

Kai Hattendorf, CEO and Managing Director of UFI, said members have sought approval from UFI for his education, so they can report to employers and peers that they have received exceptional training in industry. “Therefore, we are very pleased to present the UCP designation, a new flexible approach in our industry addressing different educational needs across the world,” he noted.

The launch of the UCP title marks a new stage in the evolution of UFI of its educational offers. In 2017, the UFI and the Venue Management Association (VMA) started offering the UFI-VMA Venue Management School in Asia. And in 2020, despite the pandemic, the association launched the UFI-Exhibition Management School, and the first courses have already taken place for the Asia and Middle East and Africa region.

Both programs will now form the core of the UFI Certified Professional designation, which is available to industry professionals who complete ten training credits in a variety of subjects. Participants must take the UFI-VMA Venue Management School or UFI-Exhibition Management School programs.

Participants will earn the remaining credits from the specialization modules. These can be selected from educational offerings provided by both UFI and its UCP partners, who will deliver UCP-approved training worldwide. These modules vary in subject matter and allow the program to be flexible according to the individual interests and professional goals of the participants.

Three educational partners were initially selected for the program: MBB-Consulting Group (UK), Virtual Events Institute (US) and Rego (UK).

UCP is a self-paced program, which means there is no time limit or minimum duration. It is fully customizable, allowing participants to choose the times, topics and locations that suit them best. Additional benefits beyond the classroom include networking, specialization, and career development.

Matthias Tesi Baur, Founder of MBB-Consulting Group, said: “The exhibition industry faces enormous challenges and changes in the years to come, and will need to attract diverse and widely qualified talent for this journey of change. Continuing education and training play a vital role, ensuring that qualified young people join and stay in our industry. The UFI Certified Professional program is a great way to increase the attractiveness of our industry and to make us collectively stronger.

Sophie Ahmed, CEO of Virtual Events Institute, added: “We will provide UFI members with the knowledge and skills to create new experiences, capitalize on new revenue streams, grow their brand and enter new markets. We are excited to work with UFI to help its members maximize their success.

Rego CEO George Stylianou said, “Becoming a UFI Education Partner has given us a fantastic opportunity to share the Rego Approach, a unique learning set, developed over the past 25 years, to enable to our employees to consistently achieve exceptional results. We look forward to working closely with UFI to further develop professionals in the exhibition industry. “
