New petitions to sign this week: revoking an animal abuse vet’s license, protecting abortion access passes, banning the Yulin Dog Meat Festival, and more!

Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many people. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on humans and animals. Although it can be daunting and difficult to hear, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions we can reach out to those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for bringing about positive change in the world. If you’re looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Urge authorities to revoke animal-abusing vet’s license, Call on Congress to pass protections for access to abortion, Help ban the Yulin Dog Meat Festival, and more!

We want to thank you for being the change you want to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Help save the wolverines

Recently, a federal judge ruled against a Trump administration decision that would deny wolverines protection under the Endangered Species Act. Wolverine populations and habitats have declined significantly, with fewer than 300 of them in the contiguous United States. Poaching, climate change and human sprawl have played a big part in this. Please sign this petition to ask the authorities to listen to the courts and help protect wolverines!

2. Urge Congress to take animal abuse more seriously

The Uvalde and Buffalo shooters had histories of animal abuse. Uvalde shooter Salvador Ramos allegedly made videos where he, according to a witness, “put cats in plastic bags, hang them inside, throw them on the ground and throw them in people’s homes”. Buffalo shooter Payton Gendron allegedly decapitated a cat shortly before his shooting. The link between animal abuse and human abuse has been well established for a very long time. Please sign this petition to urge Congress to take animal abuse more seriously to prevent violent behavior from escalating!

3. Demand that Boris Johnson resign as Prime Minister

COVID-19 has hit the UK hard, which is why the country has put in place bans on gatherings and parties. However, although Britons had to endure these strict lockdowns, Boris Johnson and his staff were throwing parties and getting drunk. A government report revealed that more than 15 events had taken place. While over 100 fines have been issued to these offenders, there is still much to be done. Please sign this petition to demand that Boris Johnson resign as Prime Minister!

4. Urge Congress to vote for reparations

Two weeks ago, many people in the United States celebrated June 19, which marks the day the last of the slaves was freed. Slaves helped build the White House, the Capitol, and even the Statue of Liberty at the Capitol. Yet even after being freed from slavery, African Americans were marginalized, separated, imprisoned, and brutalized by police brutality. We can’t undo everything that’s been done to this community, but there is something that can help them begin to heal and thrive. Please sign this petition to urge Congress to vote for reparations!

5. Demand that Congress pass legislation to curb climate change

Earlier this month, flash floods swept through Yellowstone National Park and washed away homes, bridges and roads. On top of that, more than 10,000 people had to be evacuated. Yellowstone had already started preparing for extreme weather events due to climate change, but even they weren’t ready for it. Apparently every week we hear of extreme weather events, floods or excessive heat waves. A recent report found that rich countries like the United States are the main culprits of climate change, so we need to do something about it. Please sign this petition to urge Congress to pass legislation that helps curb climate change!

6. Urge the authorities to revoke the license of the animal-abusing veterinarian

Veterinarians take an oath to protect our pets, improve their health and help alleviate their suffering. Most of them really care about animals and take this oath seriously, but of course there are always exceptions. Earlier this year, a New York vet had photos taken of him that showed him hitting, kicking, punching and choking animals. Despite all this, the man is still allowed to continue his practice. Please sign this petition to urge authorities to immediately revoke this animal abuser’s license!

7. Call on Congress to enact abortion access protections

The United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and it is now up to each state to decide on abortion. Many poor individuals and minorities in red states will be negatively affected by this momentous decision. Several states already have “trigger laws” in place, many of which do not allow abortions even if the woman’s health is in danger or she has been the victim of rape. Please sign this petition to call on Congress to enact abortion access protections!

8. Ask the authorities to investigate the mass deaths of Long-beaked Corellas

A wildlife carer has been called to the New South Wales border to investigate the death of long-beaked coral. Initially, she discovered a handful of these dead birds, but as she continued to search the forest, she found 105. Autopsies later found that some of the birds had suffered severe haemorrhages. Since these types of birds often travel in flocks, it is important to know if these animals have been poisoned, in order to avoid another death toll. Please sign this petition asking the NSW Police to take this matter seriously and investigate this matter!

9. Demand the return to Harvard of the remains of enslaved Native Americans and Africans

Recently, a report was leaked which shows that Harvard has in its possession the remains of approximately 7,000 enslaved Native Americans and Africans. Besides being illegal, it is also very disrespectful to these marginalized communities. On top of that, a racist Harvard scientist had a man and his daughter pose for nude photos several years ago, and even though the scientist’s relatives and the father and daughter’s relatives want the photos to be theirs made public, Harvard has always refused. Please sign this petition to ask Harvard to return the remains of these humans to the appropriate communities and send them all the benefits they received from their exposure!

10. Help ban the Yulin Dog Meat Festival

The Yulin Dog Meat Festival recently kicked off in China, a 10-day event where thousands of dogs are needlessly slaughtered for their meat. Many people around the world have expressed their outrage at this sadistic festival, and most Chinese people don’t support it either. In addition to murdering and stuffing these sentient beings into tiny wire cages, the vendors also beat and torture the dogs before killing them, as they believe the adrenaline will enhance the flavor of the meat. Please sign this petition to ask the Chinese President to ban this horrible party once and for all!

11. Tell the Atlanta City Council to stop the construction of “Cop City”

Source: 11Alive/YouTube

The Atlanta City Council has decided to approve the construction of a police weaponization training center called “Cop City”. To do so, the city will destroy 85 acres of Atlanta’s largest forest, which helps protect the city from flooding and climate change. The vast majority of residents do not support this project, yet the city council still voted to go ahead. Please sign this petition to urge the Atlanta City Council to stop this project!

12. Classify Groomers as Mandated Animal Abuse Reporters in New Jersey

In New Jersey, a man pulled up outside a dog groomer’s office, pulled his dog out of the car, then kicked and threw them at his car. After he was done with the brutal assault, he took his dog to the groomer and acted perfectly normal. Someone witnessed the incident and reported it to authorities, who were able to confirm the attack with surveillance video. Groomers are in a good position to report signs of abuse to authorities, but they must be protected by law to avoid losing business. Please sign this petition to classify groomers as mandated animal abuse reporters in New Jersey!

13. Demand that Twitter remove animal abuse videos faster

A video recently went viral on Twitter of a captive elephant leaning forward in a headstand while a dog handler sprays the elephant with water. While many people were impressed by the stunt, many more knew that this unnatural behavior was taught by force and not done by choice. Elephant trainers often stab them with fish hooks or shock them with cattle prods to trick them into doing what they want. Please sign this petition to urge Twitter to create a better system to remove these types of videos before they go viral and normalize exploitation!
